What are the "recovered files" in my trashcan? I have the latest updates on OS10.4 and every now and then when I'm deleting my trash I see a directory called "recovered files". Can anyone enlighten me on what this is all about? Is there anything I can do to my system to try and prevent problems in the future, as I fear this is a sign of trouble brewing.
I bought a mac just after Tiger was announced, having been a PC user before then, so I'm still a bit of noob

Good info. Glad I saw this topic. I also noticed it after I had upgraded to Tiger. Reminds me of the old OS 9 days.

Maintenance scripts usually run late at night so depending on whether you keep your machine on 24/7 you might want to look at some maintenance apps.
Also 'repair permissions' before and after an major install, though this is like the OSX magic bullet - placebo more than anything by most accounts, but if you hang around I am sure you will hear it lots.
Personally my machine is on 24/7 and every month or so I repair permissions. Administering this machine is cutting into my social life!

i have got panther, but it wont install yet. tried taking the ram back to the shop and the company wasnt there anymore. (but there is still a computer shop there) so, they were saying something about sendin it back to kingston. but i have got to try and install without the vram upgrade in.
it was funny, at the shop. i walk in with my mum and they start looking at my mum and expect her to say something but, they get a 12 y.o. (shhh!! dont tell the moderators!) talking about my computer specs, kernel panics, ram and logic boards!

I don't like the trash recovery feature. One time it brought back some of my deleted pornography. I'd say that was a bit of a security problem. It's also a pain to delete it every time. I was so glad I didn't have it in the early versions of OS X because I recall it being in some of the old OSs. Why do they have to bring back pointless annoying features?
It's not as if it recovers files that were lost in a crash. My machine crashed while using Azureus and it flushed my downloads (yeah, more porn). Now that stuff I wanted back but the trash was empty. Pffft useless.

I remember having this feature recover something important a few times way back under OS 8.1. Don't remember the specifics, though. It was a long time ago.
