Hello, all ...

I've a dual 2ghz G5, and it is super-quiet. I have a 250GB ATA drive in a firewire 400 enclosure connected to the G5, and Panther never seems to put it to sleep, like it does with the internal drives. Can Panther do this? If not, can Tiger?

Regards,

John, wanting to conserve power in every way he can

Yes, Panther certainly can. A friend uses an external Lacie drive that spins down just fine under Panther.

It's not the OS, it's the drive case. Some don't let drives spin down. If yours doesn't do it, either live with it, or get a different case.
