I have a dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4
I'm trying to open Photoshop CS and I get this error message:

The application "Photoshop" could not be launched because of a shared library error: ".<application><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonCore> <>"

This has also happened when trying to install the newest Macromedia Flash Player.

The application "Install Flash Player 7 OSX" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "7<BaseInstaller Carbon><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonCore><>"

What do I do?

thnx,
-B

Run Disk Utility, Repair Permissions

See if that helps. Get back with the result.

I don't think this is my issue it seems anything I do on this machine causes similar warnings. When I turned on my g4 today after startup I got this message:

The application "(null)" could not be launched because of a shared library error: ".<ATI Monitor><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonCore><>"

confused,

I was trying to avoid that. Are these warnings that you or anyone has encountered or is re-installing just a quick fix that is told to anyone w/ a foreign problem

look, there's obviously something wrong with your CarbonLib and the problem isn't going to fix itself. you've already tried the easy fixes and they haven't worked.

either make a new account to see if it's your system or just your account that has the problem or try reinstalling the OS.

cocoa is the newest application environment for running "native" os X programs. In order to have some backward compatibility, so developers would not have to recode their apps, Apple provided developers with the oportunity to "carbonize" their apps, allowing them to run in os X. The Carbob Library (or carbonLib) is one of the librarys programer call upon to accomplish this. I beleive carbonlib 1.6 is the latest version of this library.
I don't know what causes it to be corrupted, but no software is perfect.

As for what would cause CarbonLib to become corrupt — either disk corruption or an interruption in the middle of a system install or update, most likely.
