Hi all, I currently have 512 ram and the system seems relatively responsive, but I was wondering how much more responsive (if at all) the system would become by adding another 512.

Here is a shot of my disk utility with the usual apps open...Activity Monitor shows all different apps taking up huge amounts of ram which I doubt they are doing, but I don't know.

Can someone explain it to me?

And I notice that it shows I still have some free ram (not much), but would this make getting more ram pointless if I plan on only having these apps open?

Thanks again.

BitTorrent and Acquisition, in fact pretty much all filesharing apps, eat RAM like there's no tomorrow. Adding RAM would help, but you'd still end up paging out eventually.

The figure to watch is your PageOuts - ideally this figure would be very low. Looks like you would benefit from more RAM. Stick in another GB if you have the budget.

you can never have enough RAM. If yoou are going to go from 512 mB to 1 gB, wear a seatbelt...your computer will suddenly fly

unless you suddenly decide to start running only 1 application at a time, then YES, you need more ram......no doubt about it

alot of pageouts, only 17mb free, 5.59GB of swap files, 499mb used, and most of the same apps that are sucking up alot of real ram are also sucking up alot of swap space too, all of which will get worse the longer you leave the machine running between restarts and the more apps you open at once.

exactly how many more clues do you need ?

just do IT
u know ya wanna
just like everyone else
