I am having a problem gettin on iSight with my friend. She have G4 eMac, 700 Mhz, 768 MB, 40 GB, 10.4.2. Her iSight works fine here until she moved from Connecticut to Rochester, NY and we got on iSight just fine last week until this weekend, the problem begin to occur.

Sometimes we would get "no respond" message after attempting getting on iSight. Somtimes we would get on iSight, she sees me just fine but I see her clear, her FPS started with 15 FPS then dropped to 1.0! (See Connection Doctor image below).

We have tried everything like changing iSight video speed under iChat>preference>Video
Also, the Quicktime streaming, too ( We leave it as "Automatic").

We also restarted and unhook iSight before trying to get on ISight.. sometimes we accomplished this but most of the time, no luck.

Could it be her ISP (RoadRunner)? She tried to get on iSight with me by using her roomate's G5 powermac- at first it failed few times then we got thru!

I know her eMac is still good to use.. so, must be her ISP? Or what? BTW, I'm using iMac G5, 1.8 Ghz.

Thanks

try this website

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

to test your connection speed. then call your ISP. Could it have something to do with the sudden influx of college students (RPI and RIT) slowing down the network

During the Summer Break, there are a lot fewer users on the Rochester Newtork. Come September, both major colleges (RPI and RIT) Fall Semester starts, witha huge influx of students. The traffic load probably goes up at leat 4 times, which could slow down the network.

There are probably a lot more than the 2 colleges in the Rochester area, and there is no slight meant to them or their students.

how can you break past 15 fps? i thought the isight was capable of 30 fps? or that only allowed on an intranet line? How about Steve Job's Keynotes?
