I have a friend with an ibook G3 600mhz 245mb. Currently they're running 10.2.8. Would Tiger run reasonably on that system. According to apple, it's the bare minimum for Tiger and I wondered if they would be better staying with what they've got, or whether Tiger would improve the system at all.

Be grateful for your opinion.

If they could max out the memory (640 MB Max) it will be useable. It would also work a LOT better if you can upgrade to panther 10.3.9

Att his point however, It would be a LOT cheaper if you bought a new laptop. You are looking at a 2 or 3 x processor speed boost, and useability well into the future.

Frankly, I don't think there are any appreciable speed differences between 10.2, 10.3, or 10.4. If anything, things have gotten faster with newer versions. (Benchmarks show this!)

Regardless, I run 10.4 on a 400MHz G3 and it runs just as well as 10.2 or 10.3. But you'll definitely need to bump the RAM all the way to the maximum.

Add RAM and it should work fine. Don't expect wonders, though, but if 10.2 is ok for that guy, 10.4 will be, too.
