I just installed Tiger on an original PB G4, 500 mhz I think was. Anyway, when the apple comes up during start up, the little cycle keeps spinning for a while, then the apple eventually turns into a little ∅ sign, like in a no smoking sign. I don't know what the problem is since I thought the requirement for Tiger is a mac with built-in firewire, which it has. Any ideas?

What?? I have never ever heard of that. That's bizzare. It IS supported. People run Tiger on a Pismo for crying out loud, and that's a G3! Something is funky though, tried a firmware update? Maybe a PRAM reset?

ah a firmware update. This PB was running 9.2 and not connected to the internet very much, as well as being owned by a not to technically inclined person. Thanks for the quick help, I have to get this fixed and returned tomorrow.
