you could have a bad install dvd. do you have a processor upgrade installed?

Mac OS X Version 10.4 requires a Macintosh with:

PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
Built-in FireWire
At least 256MB of physical RAM
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 3.0 GB of available space on your hard drive; 4GB of disk space if you install XCode 2 developer tools

I have 756 MB physical RAM and 15+ GB of space

OS is now at 10.2.2. I did an update just to see if I could, No problems.

I exchanged the DVD for a new one and had the same results.

The installer fails at the 'Select a Destination'. I cannot select a volume, even if I only have one mounted.

Both of these issues are irreleavent.......

My B&W G4/650 w/Radeon9200 runs Tiger & every other version of OS X just fine since the PB days

Sounds like a Firmware issue.......

Could you give (a lot) more details on your machine? Any cpu upgrades?
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
