So, I FINALLY am able to buy Tiger. I go to install it, install DVD verfies itself, then it gets to the install progress bar, which stalls on the initial verification of my hard drive. Eventually I get a message saying "There was an error installing the software. Please try installing again." Or something along those lines. I am, of course, alarmed, as well as perplexed; let's make one thing clear off the bat: my hard drive boots and runs with no noticable problems whatsoever.
(BTW, comp is iMac G4 flat-panel, 800 MHz, currently running 10.3.9.)
So, I click the restart button, this time going to Disk Utility (still on the install DVD). When I select my hard drive and run repair, this is what I get:
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Missing thread record (id=6232)
Overlapped extent allocation (file 195844d)
Incorrect number of thread records
Incorrect number of thread records [yes, a second time]
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 185972 instead of 185974)
Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
Invalid volume block free count
(It should be 949909 instead of 949958)
Volume Header needs minor repair
Repairing volume
Missing directory record (id = 6232)
The volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired.
Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit
... and, that's that. Restarted with my regular disk, STILL boots just fine despite all of the above. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I've heard DiskWarrior is more robust than Disk Utility, but I'm flat broke after getting Tiger, and even then I'd be reluctant to shell out for something I'm not sure would actually fix it. I suppose I should be grateful that my computer still works, but I'm dying to be able to use Tiger, and plus this could mean that one more thing goes wrong and it's dead. Help me!
