I am going to be hosting a website from my house with Mac OS X. Do I need Mac OS X Server or is the standard version ok? Does the standard edition limit the number of incoming connections?

Thanks, Scott.

The standard version should be fine. However if, you need to do any configuration of Apache (beyond turning it on/off) you will need to do so on the command line, whereas the Server version of OS X has graphical tools.

There is no incoming connection limit on the standard version of OS X.

No, you don't need OS X server for that. The thing that'll limit the number of connections is going to be your internet connection

If you do want to spend some cash you might look at Tenon's iTools. It makes configuring Apache a little more friendly.

To be honest though, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty you can just learn to configure Apache yourself, which is about $350 cheaper. And if you want to invest a little time, you could write a little applescript to do those things for you.

You don't need OS X Server, but for configuration of Apache, MySQL, etc, I would recommend webmin. Good luck!
