Here's the situation:

I have a powerbook with serious hard disk problems. It won't boot and even firewire mode is problematic (I believe the drive has physical problems), but I can boot into single user mode and browse my data files in my user folder. These are the files I care about and want to copy to another computer.

I have another Mac here.

I have a USB thumb drive.

I have firewire cables, ethernet etc.

Is there any way to copy files from single user mode either onto the USB drive or onto the other Mac via a network.

A step by step idiot's guide would be helpful.

Could you possibly boot into target disk mode instead of single user mode? If you could accomplish that things would be infinitely simpler.
