I need to monitor my Internet usage since I am given a small 50GB cap/month. Also all ISP's in Vancouver have caps so I am kinda screwed. I use menu meter for that right now (well the OS records it). My problems is - how do I auto reset it at 11PM on the last day of the month without a reboot and keep the info from being erased during a reboot?

What on earth are you planning to do that will use more than 50 GB a month? Are you running a server or something?

My old ISP had like a 7 GB/month cap and I never managed to go over it.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

It's easy to hit 100gb per month, I've known people to do 300mb per month. The 50gb cap is becoming common. Try checking out the other ISPs in the area, more and more companies are reselling shaw/telus so you can avoid the cap that way. Start cutting out serial content, like those TV shows, pick the bad ones and don't watch them anymore.

I believe NetMonitor could tally up bandwidth, as could NetBarrier.....you can use IPFW as well. NetBarrier will keep the number until you reset the counter, not just restart the computer (this is information going back about 4 years, sorry if it's incorrect). It's surprising that your ISP doesn't offer a counter, try phoning them up and telling them to enable it, since you can't monitor your bandwidth usage for them without something to monitor it with.

Those are all legit shows. Also I don't want to cut back on basics, Also resellers have caps (as 3Web does now). Primus (not available to me) is the only unlimited provider and I no longer have a phone line.

Shaw does have monitoring but it sucks and can be delayed up to a week+.
