Speaker balance changes on it's own?

Every few weeks, more sound comes out from one speaker then the other. I check in Sys Prefs under Sound, and sure enough, the balance is not centered. I don't know if this is a bug in OS X where it changes the balance on it's own, or if another app is doing it. Any ideas?

Known problem, covered dozens of times. Was gone for a while in 10.3, and showed up again for some reason.
