Hi

A friend suffers from macular degeneration and has used an OS 9-based Performa for years. Suddenly his modem died and I basically installed his drive into another old machine -- a 450MHz Blue and White. All was well until we tried using CloseView -- the Universal Access tool that allows you to zoom in up to 16x. The problem is that the cursor disappears.

I've tried everything I can think of -- wiping PRAM, adjusting monitor prefs, trying base set extensions, etc. -- to no avail.

One thing I haven't tried is using a USB keyboard and mouse -- since the B&Ws had a serial I just kept his old keyboard and mouse. I'll try this later but don't know what to do if it doesn't work out. I suppose a clean install of 9.2 could be in order...?

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Have you thought of upgrading him to OS X? Tiger runs on a B&W G3, and its accessibility features are much better than in OS 9, IMO.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I would either install OS X or a fresh OS 9. The Performa's drive likely lacks the correct graphics drivers for the B&W, causing the missing pointer.

GREAT suggestion tooki -- I'm in the middle of a clean install on a new drive now. I'll let you know shortly. I can't imagine it not working, though. Thanks for the tip.

BTW this friend is very, very elderly and would have a lot of difficulty adjusting to a new OS just now. All that the machine is used for is AOL and Word.

Well, back to the drawing board.

No dice -- regardless of whether it is a NEW drive with a clean install of OS 9.2 and updated drivers, etc. -- it will not show the cursor in CloseView. Again, this is on a Blue & White machine. I'm baffled as to why it won't work...!

PLEASE help!!!
