What happened to my fonts?!

All of the sudden most of my fonts have disappeared. I was using PPT and I no longer have access to Arial (or about 50 other fonts). I located the Arial font file in the Office folder and double-clicked it which launched the font manager. I then tried to install it and it says that there are serious problems with the font and I shouldn't continue. What the hell happened?
