In Windows I like the fact that if I have 3 documents open in Word, I can Alr-Tab to cycle between them. But in Tiger, I can only Alt-Tab between apps, not documents.
Is there a similar way to quickly cycle between windows in Word or Firefox for example?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Command-~ switches between windows in the frontmost application.
Control-F4 switches between all windows (this shortcut is a little inconvenient IMO - you can remap it to something else in System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts)
And don't forget Exposé! F9 to switch to any window, F10 to switch to any window in the frontmost app, and F11 to get to the Desktop. The handiest of them all. You can also remap these, or you can set up screen corners so moving the mouse in a corner invokes them. If you have a multi-button mouse, you can also set the extra buttons to invoke the Exposé commands.

On the German keyboard, the command to switch between windows WITHIN an application is Apple-"<".
You can check up on all globally available keyboard shortcuts by heading into System Preferences --> Keyboard&Mouse --> Keyboard Shortcuts

The keyboard shortcut to cycle windows depends on the system language. Have a look at the Finder's Window menu. The third command in there is for cycling windows. You can look up the keyboard shortcut for this command there.

Btw, if you want to keep your hands on the keyboard while using Exposé, after e.g. using F10 to bring up all of an app's windows, you can use the arrow keys to move between those windows, and the tab key to move between the expose modes. Return will select the highlighted window (or spacebar if you have Full Keyboard Access on - which is what you will also need for Control-F4 to work as described by CharlesS).

Oops, forgot to say... to switch Full Keyboard Access on or off, press control F1.

I was going to say the same thing. Why not just F9 and just tab between the minimized windows in Expose?

Download Witch. Now! It's free (donations welcome though) and does exactly what you want, in short: it's the shiznit.

Your friend is wrong. It's command-backtick.

The command to switch between windows is always command plus whatever key is immediately above the tab key, at far left.

No.
On a German system, it's Command + < (and Command + Shift + < for inverse cycle).
"<" is just above Ctrl and Option, just to the right of the left Shift key.
