Hmm in the Finder menu,

Finder > Services > Search with Google (Shift-Cmd-L)

This opens Safari. Ok, one does use Safari to search with Google but it doesn't direct one automatically to the Google website.

interesting. hadn't checked services.
so...this opens safari, but does NOT go straight to google...

funny shortcut (easier to just click in the dock).
but at least i'm not imagining things (well, not that anyway)

thanx!

Mine goes to Google but that may be because it's my homepage.

It only seems to work if Safari is closed first - is that just me?

goes to google because that's your home page...

i can bring safari to the front if it's hidden, but not minimized (then again, i hide apps, never use minimize... )

open text edit and type some words. then highlight it then hit that combo.

clicking a file and hitting that will try to search for that documents path on google... dont know why.. it should search for its filename

clicking on a word or phrase in textedit & hitting the keycombo brings up a google search of the highlighed phrase...but wish it brought safari to the front.

a sort-of not-fully-realized-yet idea, eh?

btw does anybody understand "cindyding"s post, above? (or any of "her" other posts...)

i sense an intruder...

I think Cindy's posts are spam.

Most of them, including her sig. have links to drivehq.

Spam is what keeps the report abuse button alive.

This key combination is interesting though.
I never thought the 'Services' menu would have held something useful.
'Services' makes it sound like a utilities menu.

Maybe english isn't her native language? The pages linked from her sig seem to suggest so.

Anyway, I've hit that key combo accidentally on occasion, when I sometimes confuse the "Open Location" key combo (cmd-L) with cmd-shift-L. didn't do much, but comes in handy if you need to do a quick search.

I wasn't suggesting it was because of her English, i was suggesting it due to the fact that on a lot of her posts she wants us to tell her on DriveHQ which either links to a sign up page, a drive with folders or forums etc.
Read her post on here and check the hyperlinks.
