I booted from my iBook's an original CD. It reported that it repaired one volume but not the other. Trouble is, I only have one volume and it's not dual-boot! Also, it said that the "leaf count" was incorrect. What is this, and how do I fix it (or should I fix it)?

The answer to your situation depends on several things:

* Are you experiencing problems (freezes, crashes etc.)?

* You ran Disk Utility from your "original CD." What version of OS is on that CD and what version are you currently running on your Mac? The reason I ask this is that in

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301266

it is explained that the version of Disk Utility that came with any version of the OS earlier than 10.3.9 will report false leaf count errors when used to check a Tiger (10.4) OS volume.

* Assuming that you have run the appropriate version of Disk Utility and the above article does not apply to you, I would think that the next steps would be Disk Warrior, Tech Tool Pro, and lastly maybe doing a full backup of all your files (good idea to do that anyway) and then a clean reinstall of the OS (with a disk erase including writing zeros, which can take overnight on a large disk) if these other utilities cannot fix the problem (assuming it is real and not an artifact of the versions being run). I have fixed the leaf count report using Disk Warrior, but in some cases, even Disk Warrior cannot fix this problem. The cases I used Disk Warrior to fix the leaf count error were on OS X versions 10.2 and 10.3 that are on the computers I use, but I have never seen a disk error on the my daughter's iMac G5 which runs Tiger, so my experience in fixing Tiger errors is nil (have never encountered one yet, I presume I will someday).

* Before you go an erase your disk and reinstall, I would wait for more a few comments from people who are more expert than me on this topic ...
