as the title says i cant install anything nor can the other administrator account.
i get this errror installing anything: "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges"
using software update i cant update my iTunes.
i have ran disk Utility and repaired permissions.
i have run the install disk's Utility to repair disk.
Nothing has had an effect.
Root user can still install stuff though. just fine. but not the other administrators.
Is there anything that can be done or do i just got to backup everything to the 2nd internal hd and reinstall panther again... again?
Thank you... Any help is greatly welcomed.
ps. before im asked. My applecare has expired so i cant run it to them asking for help.

If you have your Root user activated, you should know how to deal with a problem like this. If you don't, is probably because using Root that you provoked this.
I suggest reinstalling and not activating the Root user this time.

You might be able to fix your problem by "repairing permissions" and ceasing to use the root account.
That mac person you know doesn't know. Don't enable the root account unless you're prepared to tackle the problems you're bound to get yourself into.

Good job. Now take you friend's advice with caution. There is no need for you to enable the root account...period.

i remember why i had it on in the first place before this.. i was trying to fix my mysql home server... i seem to be missing the /tmp/myql.sock and no matter what i do i cant get it back so i was in there instead of giving myself permisions to the tmp folder i was on that trying to fix it..
and its still broke... even after the reinstall.

You don't need the root user enabled to be root. When you reinstalled, did you tell it to keep the users and network settings? If you did, and it works now, then you probably deleted a file you shouldn't have. The other possibility is that the netinfo database itself got messed up.

Try MAMP for an easily installed version of MySQL.
