I have Tiger 10.4.3 & can't log into console. I changed user login and type in >console with no password. It goes to a black screen and quickly says something about dev/console and logs out. Any suggestions?

Anybody? I am trying to log in under console using >console on login screen, but it doesn't work. Is there a key I can press at start up?

You can't log into the console while there are users logged into the GUI (and switched out). You have to log out everyone, then you can use the console.

There is also a setting to disable >console, but the only way I know to get at it is through MacOS X Server Workgroup Management.

I can do it but I had to turn off fast user switching and reboot first.
