Let's say my setup is like this:

drive #1 - main single disk (OS/apps)

drive #2 + #3 = RAID-0 drives

if drive #1 fails with the OS/apps, does that mean that a re-install of OS X on a new drive will not be able to read the RAID-0? Or will it be able to?

The RAID should still be recognized, I believe. I made a RAID 0 out of two Firewire drives on one machine, moved them both to another machine, and it recognized the RAID.
