Hi- Everytime I turn on my computer or wake it up from being asleep, the HD icon moves to a lower level on the screen. I have only had my powerbook for 3 month and i have no idea what is going on. I tried selecting the "snap to grid" feature but this had no effect. Do I have a bug? Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks.

I am using 10.4.3

Go to Finder preferences and, under the 'General' tab, uncheck the 'Hard disks' item.

YES!!! your tip has solved the problem. I've tested it and the HD icon is now in it's original position during waking and restarting. thanks for the help.

Yeah, I wondered if this would fix the problem, because, as you said, all it does is remove the hd icon from the desktop. However, to my surprise, it worked. I confirmed the results many times by waking my pb from sleep and restarting it. The hd icon now stays in its original spot (top right corner), as opposed to the altrered position (low rleft side of screen).

this is exactly what i did:

So, in 'finder preferences,' I clicked on the hard disk box (uncheck) and the hd icon disappeared.
Then I I clciked on the hard disk box (check) and the hd icon reappeared, but in the altered positon.
On the desktop, I dragged the hd icon to top right corner.
In finder preferences, I clicked on hard disks (uncheck) again, making the hd icon disappear.
Finally, again in preferences I clicked on the hard disk box and the hd icon reappeared in the desired spot: upper right corner.

It worked...i have no idea how...but that's what i did.
