So, my GF just got a new iMac G5 20", & a discussion has ensued regarding using her system install discs to upgrade my G4 iBook from 10.3 to 10.4.

I say that her discs will install things that I can't use, and may not install things that I need.

She says that it probably doesn't matter.

Who's right?

I bet ยข2 that it won't work at all.

Its easy to settle this argument,

You buy Tiger and not worry about using her copy.

Recently, the software install discs that Apple ships with its computers have become increasingly specialized. I agree with chris v that it probably won't work at all.

It never occurred to us that it wouldn't work at all, but that does make sense.

I actually went out & bought a copy of Tiger before this came up, so maybe I'll just go ahead & install it & not worry about it.

I am a bit pissed that I would have to buy iLife in order to get iPhoto 5.

Not that I am condoning piracy, but I do believe the iLife apps will copy from one drive to another fine.
