I like to drag and drop photos from the net into folders
I was not able to do this in windoze and find it to be a charm
only one issue...

when dragging an image into a folder i found that i can place unlimited duplicate images with the SAME NAME in the SAME folder.

Now if I choose the save the image by right clicking(ctrl+click) and save or save as I get a prompt saying a file by this name already exists would I like to replace........

is there anyway to make the system do that when DRAGGING a picture ..........

This does not occur with me. When I dragged the same image from my browser into a folder previously containing that image, it creates another file and appends a number to the file.

It should be appending progressively higher numbers to the end. I'd be interested to see the listing for that folder. Could you print out a listing from the Terminal? Here's how if you don't know:

Open a Terminal window.
Type "cd " (with the space at the end) and then drag the folder containing the mystery duplicates into the Terminal window.
Hit return.
Type "ls -l" and hit return.

Let me know what it prints out.

I probably didnt articulate myself well.
Mine does that also creates a duplicate and appends a number.

What I would like it to do is; ask me if I would like to replace the existing file.

is this an option?
