Hi all,

When I download files etc from the web it gets placed on the desktop by default. Is there anyway I can get it to automatically put it in a particular folder instead of the desktop?

Thanks

If you go into your browsers preferences you can change it there. It's easy but since I'm sitting in front of a windows box at work I can't tell you the exact steps. When I get home this afternoon if no one else has answered I'll post exact directions. I assume you're using Safari?
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Great, thanks Chito. I found it in the preferences section for Safari!!!

Safari/Preferences/General Tab ... in case anyone else is wondering.
Thanks again.

You can change the default download location in Safari by going into Prefernces and changing it there. If you want to save a download to a folder other than your default location, right click on the link while holding down the "Option" key, this will allow you to save the file to the desired location other than what you have set in your Safari preferences.

Thanks zoetrope, if you don't have a 2 button mouse (I have the wireless mac mouse) is there another keystroke which will let you save to another location other than the default one specified in Safari for those moments for when you just want to put the file somewhere else?

Yes there is. Holding the Control Key while clicking with a one button mouse is the equivalent of right clicking with a multi button mouse. So, to save to another location other than the default download location in Safari, hold down both the Control and Option keys while clicking.
