One of the big problems people have when they switch to the mac is is acceleration "problem" with the mac mouse and trackpad. There are numerous posts all over the Net, even professional reviewers (see the anandtech switch review) mention this as a "flaw".

I think I may have found a solution for this, I apologise if this has been posted before.

Here it goes:

go to the system-preferences-->universal acces-->mouse and trackpad tab, there are 2 sliders which control the accelaration of the mouse and trackpad. You have to adjust those to your liking together with the other speed slider from the normal mouse preferences. And voila there is no more lag, no more need for third party programs/drivers to fix this. I have set my mouse and trackpad to the perfect speed and now my mouse moves "windows-like" which seems to be a desire for alot of people.

ps: excuse me for my english, I am not a native english-speaker, I translated this from my dutch install of OSX

Actually, this "flaw" is really just people being used to Windows' neurotically-sensitive mouse settings with little acceleration.

The Mac's mouse acceleration is far more advanced, allowing both fine movement and quick movement without having to change mouse settings. (Note that Windows XP as well as many Windows mouse drivers have proper acceleration curves, too.)

Furthermore, the settings you mention (System Preferences/Universal Access/Mouse & Trackpad) have no effect on the mouse or trackpad. Those sliders control the Mouse Keys speed -- the speed at which the mouse pointer is moved using the keyboard numeric keypad. They do not control an actual mouse or trackpad in any way.
