I was messing around with ubuntu linux, and after a lot of stupid things I ended up with 20gigs of free space that OSx can't see. So I used the disk utility to make a partition with those 20 gigs of free space, but it gives me a warning saying is going to erase the other partitons too! , the OS X one, where the system is, and the ubuntu.
It's possible to make a partition with out formatting the others in OSX? or any other way?.

There should be.

As long as you aren't changing the size / location of a partition it shouldn't be affected.

I haven't tried disk utility as a partitioner, and it may want to redo all of your partitions, which probably isn't good.

Try the ubuntu install cd again, i will have a partitioning stage before the install, where you should be able to allocate that wasted space, and then restart.

Disk utility isn't very smart about repartitioning. If you use pdisk at the command line, you can modify the partition map without having to format everything. Remember this only modifies the partition map, so you absolutely should not change the volumes you want to keep.
