Hi folks:
My ibook G3 (running 10.2.8) locks up at "Waiting for File Deletion Tracking" on boot, the beachball stops turning and that's it.

But it only does this when running on battery power. If I plug it in, it boots fine.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Fixing permissions doesn't help anything.

Nothing I've done in OS 9 or OS X helps anything.

It happened a few weeks ago and I ran DiskWarrior just to see if it fixed it, and it did. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thx.

Do you have Norton Utilities or something similar installed? "Deletion Tracking" sounds like a component of one of those undelete utilities.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Exactly. I removed everything Norton (the vestiges of a temporary install some months ago) and everything Retrospect and it cleared it up. I think it was actually hanging upon going to Retrospect.

The removal of the programs didn't fix it. I had to go into /Library/StartupItems and actually delete the folders until I figured out which ones could stay. If it smelled of Symantec, it went straightaway.

So that means NONE of these items exist anymore:

/Library/StartupItems/TrackDelete
/Library/StartupItems/NortonMissedTasks
/Library/StartupItems/NUMCompatibilityCheck
/Library/StartupItems/SymDCInit
/Library/StartupItems/VolumeAssist
/System/Library/Extensions/DeleteTrap.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/SymDC.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/SymOSXKernelUtilities.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/symfs.kext

?
