1. How do I disable this dumb little "Open Superdrive" icon that suddenly and unwantingly appeared on my menu bar?

2. Safari now decides it is going to stay in my dock, no matter how many times I repeatedly remove it. Whenever I log out or restart... There it is.

Hold down the command key (⌘), click the icon and drag it off the menubar.

Click and hold the Safari icon in the dock, or control-click the Safari icon in the dock so that the Dock-menu for Safari opens. In the Dock-menu unselect "Open at Log-in".

Thanks for helping me with the menu bar, but Safari doesn't have "open at log-in" checked... Is there anything else that could be causing this?

The Dock preferences could be confused somehow. Try trashing them. You can find them in

yourhomefolder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

After trashing log out and back in and see if the problem persists.

Note that after trashing the Dock preferences file you would have to setup all Dock preferences again including the applications you like to have in the Dock as well as all Exposé settings.
