my eMac would start and reach grey apple logo and gears, then it would shut down within 2 seconds of displaying the grey logo.
So to fix it I started up with OS installation disk - disk utility and it said
"Incorrect no. of thread reach"
"Invalid leaf record count"
"Invalid directory item count"
"Invalid volume free block count"
So I popped in the DiskWarrior (boot from CD) and rebuilt the hard drive.
Everything went well, Disk Warrior repaired everything.
I restarted with Disk Utility and repaired disk, disk didn't need repair.
I repaired permissions, it said
"Permissions differ on .Library/Widgets should be drw xr-xr-x they are drwxrwxrx"
"Permissions differ on ./usr/lib/php/build/acinclude.m4 should be -r--r--r-- they are -r-xr-xr-x"
But it still repaired it.
I then restarted and OS 10.4.2 booted. It came to the login screen for you to fill in user and the password. I have tried all the Administrator passwords and the other users logins and passwords but they DON'T WORK!!! helpp!!! I even tried root and it doesn't work!!
I then restarted in single mode user, used applejack, repaired disk (no repair needed), repaired permissions, cleared cache.
restarted and I still cannot log into the computer.
I recently cleared the Netinfo db, via command line.
When I rebooted I got the AppleSet Program and created a NEW user login and password.
After that OSX started and I got to the login + password screen, I typed in the NEW user login and password, but I could not log -in
Please help.

Well, your system seems a teeny bit crazier than I'd noticed in the other forum, but I'd still at least try following these instructions to reset your password.
