I just got a faster, larger hard drive installed in my iBook. I had cloned my old drive's contents to an external FW drive, and then when I got my machine back I cloned the backup onto the new internal drive (both times with CarbonCopyCloner).
Everything seems to be working just fine, except that I no longer have Palatino! My Firefox homepage is set to a page that uses Palatino, and I thought things looked weird, so I checked Font Book and it's not listed! A Spotlight search returns nothing! It's not in /System/Library/Fonts, /Library/Fonts, or ~/Library/Fonts.
Am I crazy? Doesn't Palatino come with OS X? How could it have disappeared? (I haven't done anything with fonts recently, so I'm pretty sure I didn't accidentally disable or delete it.

See if you can get it back from your OS X CD/DVD.

I did. It's not in the Additional Fonts package, nor in the Base System package. None of the rest seem likely, so I'm kind of stuck.

If you have the iWork demo, look in iWork Fonts.pkg.

FWIW, There is no Palatino my DP 800/10.4.3.
As Charles said, I suspect you got Palatino from some third party application, e.g. iWork, etc. For sure it was not included with my Tiger.

Huh. I could have sworn it was a standard font. Oh well.

Palatino is available in AppleWorks but it does not show in either of the Library folders...I located it in the Classic's System Folder Font Folder.
Used to be, In OS9 days, fonts could be dragged into Fonts Folders and work okay...So I decided to check if it would work in OSX...I just copied the Palantino font folder from Classic's System Folder into the User/Library/Font folder and checked it out in TextEdit. It works.

Well, since the iWork demo comes pre-installed on all new Macs, and since the iWork installer puts Palatino in /Library/Fonts, it's sort of a standard font...

Mystery solved! I had Palatino from OS 9, and when cloning drives the Classic System Folder designation got undone so all of my Classic fonts disappeared. I re-selected the appropriate folder in the Classic prefpane and everything's back to normal. Thanks!
