For some strange reason I don't have any man pages on my PowerBook. For example, when I do 'man ls' I just get the message 'No manual entry for ls'. On my g/f's PowerBook with the exact same OS X version (10.4.3) the man pages are fine. I was wondering if I could just copy over a file or folder that holds the man page information, but I couldn't find anything that looked like it.

In another thread I then got pointed towards /usr/share/man and usr/local/man.

Can somebody here tell me if I can just copy these two folders back to my PowerBook to get my man pages back? I'd really prefer to do it this way that reinstalling the entire OS just to get a few man pages...

If you don't have anything in /usr/share/man (that's where there the OS-supplied manpages live) then yes, you can copy it - but check what happens if you make a new user first. Coudl be that it's just your $MANPATH variable that is incorrectly set.

Thanks for that tip! It was indeed just my $MANPATH.

When I created a new account everything worked like a charm and echo $MANPATH returned ' '. I went back to my normal account and got /usr/man:/usr/X11R6 or something for my manpath. I have no idea what set my manpath to that, but it persisted. So I just added a MANPATH=' ' to my .bashrc and now it works fine.

Thanks!
