Where can start-up apps hide?

I installed Nikon's crappy software that came with my nice D-50, and there's some program called Nikon View Monitor that always runs in the background without my consent. It's not a very good citizen either — it always takes about .5% of my CPU — so I'd like to stop it from running.
The problem is, I can't find any links to the app from the usual start-up locations. It's not listed in my System Preference panel (startup apps) either. Does anyone know where else I could check?

IIRC Nikon software comes with an uninstaller. I assume you want to get rid of all the Nikon software?

Open Activity Monitor, select the app, press the info-button, and select the open files tab. The path to the app should be in there.

/etc/mach_init_per_user.d/
(or maybe /etc/mach_init.d/).
Look for a plist that isn't Apple's.
(I.e., read it and find a ServiceName
that doesn't start with "com.apple").

If it came with one, I can't find it. Fact is, I'd like to get rid of all the apps but keep the Photoshop plug-in.
Open Activity Monitor, select the app, press the info-button, and select the open files tab. The path to the app should be in there.
I found the background apps (hidden in the Library) and deleted them, but I'd like to find the reference or setting that launches them and get rid of that too.
/etc/mach_init_per_user.d/
(or maybe /etc/mach_init.d/)
I checked, as per your suggestion, but nothing out of the ordinary seems to be in those locations. Hm...

Was the software Nikon Capture? If it it, just run the installer again and switch from "Easy Install" to "Uninstall."

Thanks for the tip Bradoesch. Unfortunately, Nikon's piece-of-crap program crashes during the un-installation process. It also made me close every single app I had running, which was a pain in the butt. There must be hundreds of shareware authors who can make better software than Nikon.
I guess I'll find out during my next boot (probably when 10.4.4 is out) if the un-installer deleted the auto-start rubbish before it crashed.
