got a problem. since i updated to 10.4.4, the system keychain pops up and asks for verification. I enter the password, but error message tells me it is wrong. The password for my login keychain is correct and opens right.

where would the system keychain have been set up initially? knowing that might remind me what other password i might have used.

Here's the problem i have now: In the system keychain, my wifi info is stored (actually my friends from next door) . He is letting me use his WIFI for a few days. I am afraid if I restart the computer, that I won't be able to get back into the keychain and use the WIFI. I tried moving the keychain entry from SYSTEM to LOGIN, but again, password is wrong. How can I save the current airport connection to the login keychain without re-entering the login info for the router?

thanks!

I had the same problem and after trying all of the methods ever suggested on the varying Mac forums (all which never really worked), this is what you need to do:

Find another Mac or an external drive with an OS X bootable partition. As the root user, while booted into the other system, you will need to copy over /var/db/SystemKey from the system you're booted in (good) to your Mac (problematic). Make sure that the permissions are preserved (0400).

This file tells Mac OS X how to unlock the system keychain, which is really owned by no one in particular. If for some reason you chucked the System.keychain or misplaced it, execute the following command (again, as the ROOT user - do not use sudo!):

/usr/sbin/systemkeychain -C -f

This creates a new, working, empty System.keychain and effectively overwrites the old keychain.

I created a thread in Apple discussion with the various methods suggested that do not work and the reasons listed:

I had the same problem; take a trip over to MacFixit and their forum section - in the OS X 'Tiger' forum type 'Keychain' in the search box and you will get a whole lot of info on this problem, including a fix posted by 'Virtual1' Macmaster.
Good luck!

errr.you are right.. 10.4.3 of course.

i am going to wait with trying to fix it, since it really isnn't causing a problem. If 10.5 comes out soon, I am getting it anyway, and probably gonna do a clean install, so we shall see.

thanks for the replies so far...
