I really don't feel like paying for .Mac just to synchronize the addresses (and, for bonus points, userids and passwords) between the Address Books of my laptop and desktop machine joined by a local network.

I had thought of configuring LDAP on my desktop (running Panther) and using my laptop (running Tiger) as a client, but this is proving quite difficult to figure out, and the manual for the free software (called Address4LDAP or something like that) is confusing and probably out-of-date.

Suppose my webhost offering WebDAV service. Could I leverage that somehow?
