I recently pulled a hard drive out of a dell computer i was no longer using. i put this drive into my g3 and formatted it through the install disk. i then proceeded to install panther onto this drive, but after each install i either end up with install errors, or a kernel panic. is it an issue with the hard drive, or am i screwing up somewhere?

Did you format it as HFS+? If so, try zeroing it out t, under 'options', the button to the left of erase in case some Windows crud is still on there, when you just erase stuff remains on the drive.

from your previous post I take it that you succesfully installed panther on the G3's original HD. Am I correct to think that the Dell HD is a second one? If so, try using carbon copy cloner which you can get at versiontracker.com to clone the original HD to the Dell one. This should work, and if this does not, please give us some more details of the whole setup so we can be more helpful. Do you know the manufacturer of the HD?

Blue and White G3? Try only using the ram that came with the machine during the install.

the carbon copy program worked like a charm, but now i have a new issue. Now im trying to install tiger onto it and its not cooperating with me.
The new hard drive is a Western Digital 20 gig, the original is a Maxtor 6 gig. im running with 440mb of ram (give or take). anything else you need to know, just let me know. And if it makes a difference, it a Blue and White g3, rev. 1
