Recently upgraded computer (PM G4) and OS (10.3.9). I have the original cd install/restore disks for PM G4 but am unable to install OS 9. I get a message that those are not the right disks for this computer. I checked Apple's info site and as far as I can tell, these are the right disks for this build (7W98). Probably a problem that's been addressed priviously on the forum but could not locate the thread.

Possible solution?

Thanks.

Just dragging over the System Folder from the CD might be good enough for Classic.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Not sure if you've used the System CDs before, but maybe they're mislabeled disks.

Try dragging the System Folder over, like CharlesS said.

When you upgraded, did you reformat the hard drive to totally erase it? If so, did you check the box for an OS9 system. If not, it won't be able to install OS9.

What you will need to do is boot into the OSX install disk and from the Apple menu, select Disk Utility and reformat the drive with the OS9 box checked. Then continue the OSX install and upgrade.

You only need the OS 9 drivers on the disk if you're going to be booting into OS 9. They're not needed just to use Classic.
