Hi,

I am currently working on a tech book that has the same title as the thread. I was hoping to get some chelpful critiques on the opening paragraph:

The first question that may have crossed your mind when the idea of buying a Mac first fluttered through your frontal lobe is why?
Based on whose numbers you believe anywhere from 90% to 95% of the computers in the world are currently running some version of Windows. Windows is used predominantly by the U.S. government, in most Fortune 500 companies, and in many corporate work places. Windows is the default operating system of consumers -- who have followed its evolution from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 to Windows me to Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Windows is preinstalled on computers from large, successful computer companies like Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Gateway and a myriad others.
So the truth about switching to the Mac is that you should not start by asking “why?”, but by realizing that so many people can be so wrong.

Powerbook G4 1.25 Ghz // 1 GB RAM // 80 GB HD // Backlit Keyboard

Err, I am confused. Your title says 'Moving from Mac to Windows'. Your final sentence says '..switching to the Mac'. Which is it ?

If you want your personal computer to use the operating system that was built to run the most powerful mainframes at the the Department of Defense, including those that were designing the cutting edge technologies of 'whatever' government and science was doing, say nukes and space probes, then get with the MAC OS X. If on the other hand, you would rather use a messy, kludged together, disorganized and totally vulnerable operating system, well then, Windows is the Brooklyn Bridge waiting to be sold!

I was attracted to OS X and how gorgeous it was. I had been shopping around for a portable machine to introduce myself into the Mac world with and chose the Pismo for about $300. I had the good foresight to get one because about a week after I got my Pismo my pre-fab Dell killed itself. A dead motherboard after only three years? Come on.

After being pretty much Mac-only for the past 6 months I have learned that OS X is a finely tuned, beautiful and efficient operating system. I originally though that WinXP was fantastic and couldn't be beat. However, I hated reformatting my hard drives after 6 months to get rid of viruses and spyware.

Macs are truly the way to go and all it takes is someone to play with one for about 5 minutes to fall in love with it. My girlfriend has been playing with my Pismo every since I got it and she's currently pitching her old Dell Inspiron and putting together an order for a MacBook Pro! My sister had to buy a 15" Powerbook for the technical university she goes to and she originally hated it; four months later she never lets it out of her sight.

It's all a matter of exposure I guess, but if more people gave Macs and OS X a shot, that 90-95% figure of pre-fab WinXP boxes would surely drop.
21.5" iMac | OS X 10.6.4 | 3.06 GHz | 4GB DDR3
Motorola Droid | 2.2 Froyo
Playing together nicely!
