I love the feature where when you install the OS you can easily import a user from your old mac, but is there any way to do that without reinstalling?

It would be really nice if I could import a user from one computer, then import another user from another computer and have both of them on the third.

If you copy over their home folder, and then create the user in Accounts, I think it will use the home folder that's already there. That should get about 99.9% of the stuff you want (other than the user picture and security settings).

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

/Applications/Utilities/Migration Assistant

Follow the on-screen instructions. When you get to the screen that lets you select what to migrate, just select the account(s) you want migrated. This method would also preserve the user's original UID (if that was a concern for some reason).

edit: Hmmmm. I wonder what would happen if you migrated the original admin account from one machine to another that already had a default admin account? They can't both be 501, can they? Would NetInfo automatically give the migrated account the next available UID?

Apple has been including the migration assistent on all new Macs now for a couple of years. Get yourself a firewire cable, setup the old computer in target mode and with migration assistant it will move all of your apps, preferences and settings to your new mac. I believe when you start up your new mac for the first time it will crank up the migration assistant (after going through the typical registration process).
