Hi, today I noticed a system preferences panel for Deja Vu. I realize (after googling it) that it appears to be a legal back up program, but I am wondering how the program got there.

If you have Toast, it comes with it.

Why in the world would you assume it's a virus? You think a virus would be so kind as to put a prefpane in there for you?

I guess I meant non-wanted software, which in my opinion is a virus.

But I do have Toast, so consider this question answered.

A virus must be self-replicating. Simply being unwanted doesn't make it a virus.

When you install Toast, it asks you whether or not you want to install Deja Vu. You had to click through at least one dialog about it. It's not installed without your informed consent.

By that measure, Windows is a virus.

It's not a virus as the previous posters pointed out, but you just found how the viruses are spreaded in a matter of minutes by window users through emails that need to be opened even if the subject is "I AM A VIRUS OPEN ME AND I WILL INFECT YOUR COMPUTER". The users do not read what is put in front of them, just click away
