Hi everybody. I sold my iBook on ebay and I am prepping it by reformatting the hard drive with Tiger. I know there is a way to set up the Tiger installation so that when the buyer receives it, its as if he is turning it on for the first time (i.e. the 'Welcome to Tiger' video plays on startup). Does anyone know how to set this up?
Thanks!

Boot from the Tiger CD, go to the Utilities menu and choose Disk Utility. Format the disk and in the security options turn on overwriting once with zeroes (this may take a while, so find something else to do – like watching French Maid TV). After that proceed with installing Tiger. When you see the welcome screen press and hold the power button of your Mac to turn it off.

There are better ways. But rather than corrupting the disk by letting it reboot after installation, when it comes time to restart, do it, and then when the screen finally goes black, then pull the plug.

I thought you could just Cmd-Q at the setup screen before setting up any accounts and it gives you the option to shut down.

Hi Y'all,
That's funny I just did the same thing on a Dual 450MHz "Sawtooth", I did a clean install and just turned it off holding down the power button. I turned it on a few times and went right to the "Welcome" video so I hope I don't get a call from the buyer.

Why not ask the buyer for an account login/password? That's what I did when I sold my PBG4 two weeks ago. Either that or set up a generic login/password and include that with the packaging.

How do you set up a generic login/password and change it later on. I find it difficult to find a way to change the admin username, short name and password without confusing myself and the computer.

Hyperizer is right. All you have to do is hit Cmd-Q when you get to the screen that let's you setup a new account. It will ask if you want to quit and shut down. If you do, the next time you boot up it will run the Welcome app again from the beginning.
