While installing 10.4.5 my PB froze and restarted. The problem is it now won't start again. I've left it for 20 minutes and nothing.

Anyway, I decided to T-Boot it to another PB and all the docs etc are still on there so all is not lost. I'll just copy everything across and do a new instal.

However, I was wondering, if I put the Tiger disk in, can I somehow just do an archive instal and keep all the current information on the old PB without losing it? IE just re-intall the operating system?

I don't have a Tiger install disk on me so I'll have to go buy one but if I remember correctly there is an option which keeps all the old info on the PB.

Can I do this or would it be better to do a new install from scratch and then copy the info across?

Yes, you can do an Archive & Install with preserving your user data. If your computer came with Tiger then you can use the software restore DVDs to do this. No need to purchase an extra copy of Tiger.
If you pirated Tiger before, then of course you should go an purchase a legit copy.

Does it preserve all the docs too or just the settings?

No, I didn't pirate it. Believe it or not, I'm moving house and everything is packed. It's going into storage and it's easier for me to go purchase a new copy (and stick it on expenses) rather than spending hours trying to find the DVD. I'm at the Apple Store Regent Street anyway tomorrow.

I need to get moved and some work done rather than looking for it.

That was a long explanation

Thanks for your help.

It preserves everything. It will archive the old system (hence the name) and install a fresh one. The old users and their documents and settings and whatever are untouched.
