Hello,

So I have had to re-install OSX 10.3 while saving my user accounts/info, when I restarted after the install I can only boot into Root, I can see the old user folders but do not know how to reset these folders to their original state, Any suggestions (step by step) would be of great help.

Thanks for your help.

If you boot up your mac from the installation CD/DVD you can then reset your password.

I'm not really understanding what got mucked up in the first place that you need to fix. Everything was working fine, you archive-installed and now you can't get to the accounts (except root, which you apparently enabled)? Is that it?

Thats correct, I messed up the system folder and my Mac would not boot so I re-installed OSX and when I booted up I could only see a "User" account at login so I enabled Root and logged into that. In Root on Macintosh HD I can see a User folder with my 3 old User Accounts inside, a new "System" folder and a folder called "Previous System 1" with I presume the old system folders inside.
Now all I can see on startup is the Root login, so I need to now how to re-enable the old 3 user accounts again & close the Root login.

Or do I create 3 new user acounts when logged into root and move files from the old to the new accounts?

Thanks.
