Hi there,
I have a problem with my G4 iMac which has 10.3.9 installed.
Of late I have had to use Force Quit on a couple of Apps which have been 'hanging' and failing to quit. I decided to use Disk Utility in order to verify and repair permissions.
When Verifying Permissions has been running for about 30sec or so, it stops and a window appears with the following info: 'Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility'.
I have never come across this before; I have reset the PRAM and I have run /sbin/fsck -f but still the problem remains. I tried running Disk Utility from the startup disk an got the same window with the same info. I then had a lot of difficulty quitting 'Install' from the startup disk ....
I would appreciate any help with this - thanks in advance,

It is a problem with the latest iTunes. Try moving iTunes to the desktop and then run permissions. Remember to move iTunes back when you are done.

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply - I would never have thought of iTunes.
A guy over at MacFixit came up with the following workaround: deleting all .pkg files with iTunes in their name from /Library/Receipts except for for iTunesX.pkg and iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg.

All is working perfectly - thanks for your help!
