I ran software update on my beige G3 running 10.4.4. I used my admin password to authenticate software update, and i used it to authenticate XPostFacto. Then after it ran the update and restarted, that password won't log me in. Before the update, auto login was turned on so i haven't had to log in before. What happened??

I have no help for your problem, but I'm wondering about the wisdom of upgrading a functioning, non-supported Mac to 10.4.5, when 10.4.5 mainly offers improvements for Mactels only. If you're going to be pushing it that far, be prepared for new problems.

Hm...hindsight is 20/20. Although it'd be doubly stupid to downgrade to 10.4.4 if 10.4.5 is working fine...eventually. I suppose I could go in with the installation disk and reset the password, but since it doesn't have a DVD drive that means opening the case and dropping the installation HD i made in....would a 10.2 installation CD work on a Tiger password? That would be loads easier, considering just yesterday I moved the unit behind my desk (which took quite a while).

Okay, i did a restart into OS 9 when I figured out that I didn't hook up the CD-ROM correctly so I can't restart from a CD without opening the case...so I don't care. But then I restarted into Tiger and it worked fine. So no more problem.
