Trying to help out my co-worker, Rick. He's getting strange Black highlight lines around everything. I'll post pics. We Can't figure it out. He's running 10.4.5, rebuilt permissions, etc... I checked all the system preferences, view options.

Anyone see this before? Maybe he needs a clean install?

And this one is the strangest yet:

THANKS!!!

Turn off VoiceOver. It's under the Universal Access preference pane.

Gosh, we should make a sticky about this. In the past 3 months or so, everyone and their brother is turning on VoiceOver by mistake and thinking it's a bug...

P.S. I can only guess that this problem only mystifies those who run their systems with all sound muted, since otherwise you'd be hearing the computer talking at you!

Well, the command to turn it on is command-F5. It's not all that difficult to hit accidentally.

Yeah, but the effect of causing the computer to suddenly become a blabbermouth should be a clue that it's not a bug!

He was in Quark when it first happened. Must have hit the wrong key combo. And yes, he has his volume off.

for quark users, well worth disabling that keyboard shortcut for voiceover (in keyboard sys prefs)
