On my G5 (2.5x2, 10.4.5), the menu bar is not updating. For example, my clock will remain at the same time for most of the day, iChat icon doesn't update when I log in, etc.
I'm not sure where to start on this one. My gut says its some kind of corrupted pref, but I don't want to throw the wrong one out.
Any ideas?

Does it still happen if you log out and back in?
If it does, make a new user and see if that user has the same problems. They likely do not and the original user probably has a corrupted pref file somewhere.

The correct preference file would probably be com.apple.systemuiserver.plist, since that's the process that runs the right side of the menu bar. You could just try moving it if you don't want to get rid of it until you know it's the culprit.
Also, have you got any third-party menus up there? I suppose one of them could be misbehaving too.

Just thought it might be worth mentioning the old 'Stuffit' Bug here.. Was it version 8 or 9? I cant remember now. Anyway, it caused the Menu bar on any mac with a G5 in it to go completely loopy. Took me a while to suss out what it was.
The menu bar would either freeze up solid, or was constantly restarting itself.
If I remember rightly, only the menu bar portion of stuffit needed to be junked. But far better to update it completely, or simply junk it altogether.

The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

i had the same problem. a version of now-up-to-date was the bugger. that app put a couple of icons in the menu bar for quick access to the program. you may want to check anything you have installed that adds a icon up there.

Thanks for the responses. I will try moving the pref out, as well as testing under a different user.
Yes, the problem is persistent over logout/restart. Also, I don' thave any 3rd party gizmos or now-up-to-date.

The pref delete seems to have worked. My fingers are crossed.
Any idea how this might have happened?
