Hi I am recently experiencing system crashes where I get the black screen and I just need to switch of my computer. When I restart I can not view the crash logg. It is empty. Any idea how to troubleshoot my problem. The disks seem fine and this happens about once per week. I also recently bought a belkin USB card so it could be related to that.

Thanks in advance.

Well first things first, remove the belkin USB card and see if that clears up the problem.

If it doesn't run the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with your mac. It could be a hardware issue that the AHT may uncover.

Thanks I'll do that. Isn't it strange though that the crash logg is empty. When I restart the system and the message comes up saying that the system has recovered from...and asks me whether I want to send a report to apple, it is completely empty. Or, maybe this is sometimes the case.

It looks like you're experiencing a more serious kernel panic. You need to start eliminating variables. First, disconnect non-essentially peripherals and see if the problem continues. If it does, I would next run the Hardware Test CD. If it passes but the panics continue, the next thing I'd suggest would be to pull out additional RAM you've installed. If it persists, do an Archive and Install of OS X. If the problem persists even then, try a different hard drive. And if all of that does not work, it's time to seek hardware help.

Alright thanks. AHT came out fine so I guess I need to wait and see what happens after I pulled out my Belkin USB card.
