When doing a permissions repair, I got an error with Disk Utility saying it had lost its connection with the drive

I tried it numerous times and keep getting the same error - could the hard drive be on the way out? It is about 12 months old 20" iMac running 10.3.9.

It's not losing connection to your drive, it's losing connection to its underlying worker process (which I guess crashes).

You need to remove the iTunes.pkg and iTunes4.pkg from <disk>/Library/Receipts.

Thanks for the tip - worked right after those .pkgs were removed!
