There seems to be a bug or bad setting for my International preferences. Whenever I set the language for one application (in this case Japanese) and then switch to Finder, Finder switches over to that applications language too. If I have 3 applications (Word, Firefox, and Finder) open, then Finder switches the language of the application before it (command - tab).

I can't find a way to disable this, and it is becoming a nuisance when I'm using multiple languages.

Any ideas?

International Preferences is aimed to the whole OS and apps… to run a certain app in a different language just Get Info about that app < Finder --> File menu --> Get Info > or press command+I then expand the Languages item so you can see the languages packages installed… uncheck those you 'don't need' or don't want the app running…

Here I would run iChat in spanish even when the Mac OS language is english.

As you can see you can even remove those languages resources, not needed to do the trick but useful to get some more hard disk free space with some big apps (like iLife and so…)

After re-read your post, another trick would be just to 'relaunch' the Finder, just press command+option-esc --> choose the Finder and click the button to force Finder quit / relaunch…
